Conclusion

So that was the trip over and done with, and overall as ever with the club trips I couldn't have asked for more (actually some of those down rides being open might have been nice). The pacing of the trip was less intense than others with us not having to pack up for a different hotel every day as usually happens. 

There were some great rollercoasters on the trip with Tatsu and Wicked perhaps being my favourite, the former for the ride experience and the latter simply for the surprising intensity that it offered. X2 was the most scary but purely for the jacket style restraint and fear of it popping open. But the best ride was the bobsleigh run, which admittedly wasn't on the official itinerary, but it's the one ride that I'm not going to forget anytime soon.

It was also great to get away from the coasters to find some excellent graffiti and to see more of San Francisco.

Next year's big trip is going to take us to China. See you back here in 2013.

The next park was within walking distance from our motelish hotel, and so a decision was made to give the coach driver the day off and head over on foot like a group of tourists, sticking out like sore thumbs.  Here's the next elephant on the trip, Xcelerator the rather scary looking launched coaster that was down for maintenance. 10 years ago we got to watch it testing, so this coaster is now my credit-nemesis in that I've been 100% unsuccessful in riding it.  I'm more than happy however for a ride to undergo maintenance than have this happen to me. Santa Monica Pier

After a fairly lengthy multiple stop flight that took us to LA via Detroit and a fairly bumpy landing into LAX we got to the hotel, collected our bags and headed straight to the first park on Santa Monica Pier. At this point a 24-hour day had become a 36 so we were all fairly tired. This was the hotel, a stones throw from the pier as long as you've built up your arms on the nearby muscle beach before attempting the throw that is. The hotel, being in heart of Santa Monica was perfectly located for checking out the area, but at night-time meant you had the ambient sounds of club music, fighting and on our visit a man trying his best to throw up for 20 minutes at 5 in the morning. There's the pier, which has been around for around 100 years and as well as being a popular movie/TV landmark is also a popular attraction for the locals who enjoy it's amusement park, food establishments and, for those who wish to get away from their wives, fishing opportunities off

Boomers

Whilst the club remained at Seaworld I found myself being kidnapped and whisked off to collect a rather silly credit in the area; One that wasn't on the itinerary. Boomers! is a chain of Family Entertainment Centres all around the US. Five of them have coasters, three of them in the state. Inside there was a selection of video games, but none particularly exciting. Outside there was a nice little themed park area with a selection of rides that I'd have trouble fitting into. I managed to sneak a photo of the two culprits responsible for dragging me here. I think one of them went on to star in the Pixar film "Brave". and this was the coaster, a rather embarrassing ride that did take effort to fit into but which, much to my liking, the park staff had no issue allowing us to ride. Thanks park! Tick achieved it was time to quickly move on before we alerted local authorities and we headed back to join the group at the next park.
